Lives Stolen by SeaWorld

In 2010, the world discovered just how dangerous SeaWorld’s cheap tricks are. The death toll climbed as many captive animals who were imprisoned at SeaWorld’s theme parks became victims of unnecessary tragedies.

The intelligent, social ocean animals at SeaWorld are forced to live out their lives in small tanks and are denied everything that is natural and important to them. Many of them die far short of their natural life expectancy. Despite the numerous tragedies that have occurred at SeaWorld theme parks and the threat that the parks pose to the safety of animals and even trainers, SeaWorld continues to turn a blind eye.

Let’s take a moment to recognize the lives lost and the animals who are still imprisoned at SeaWorld’s facilities across the nation:

Name: Taima (1990-2010)
Species: Orca
Age: 20
Status: Died in June 2010 at SeaWorld Orlando while giving birth. Her calf was stillborn.

Name: Sumar (1998-2010)
Species: Orca
Age: 12
Status: Died in September 2010 at SeaWorld San Diego after being imprisoned since 2001.

Name: Kalina (1985-2010)
Species: Orca
Age: 25
Status: Died in October 2010 at SeaWorld Orlando. She was the third orca to die at a SeaWorld facility in the span of four months.

Name: Tilikum (1980-present)
Species: Orca
Age: 30
Status: Captured at the age of 2 in the waters of Iceland. Imprisoned in a tank at SeaWorld Orlando.

Name: Morgan (2007-present)
Species: Orca
Age: Approximately 3 years old
Status: Found in Dutch coastal waters in June, this endangered orca could become the next victim of SeaWorld.

Name: Twenty-one unnamed orcas (1985-2008)
Ages: Various
Status: Dying between 1986 and 2008 (at an average rate of nearly one a year for 22 years), these orcas lived decades short of the expected life span of an orca in the wild.

How You Can Help

Help keep the pressure on SeaWorld by sending a message to its parent company, The Blackstone Group and ask the company to release all its animals to sanctuaries. You can also Join peta2’s Street Team to learn how you can participate in demonstrations at a SeaWorld facility in your area.
